Truly great guides are rare, although the consensus is clear on what makes one. It's a given that they are passionately in love with their subject and can comunicate it lucidly. Being individuals of wit warmth and intelligence obviously helps. But there is also something humble about this elite pack, something understated that does not force or lecture, but allows clients to look at things in their own time and to make connections themselves.
