Rome Itinerary


ColoseumDay 1 (Monday)

Flight to Rome and afternoon passeggiata to explore the area and introduction to the city.

Day 2 (Tuesday)

Children

Ruthless Romans and Glorious Gladiators: The Forum Romanum, Palatine Hill, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon. Picnic lunch on the Palatine Hill overlooking the Forum.

Parents

The Legacy of Classical Rome; republicanism, law, legalised savagery, religion and engineering. The Capitoline Museums, The Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum as well Michelangelo's Moses at San Pietro in Vincoli.

Day 3 (Wednesday)

Children

am Popes and Prophets: The Basilica of St Peter's with a climb to the top of the Dome.

pm How Christianity survived: The Catacombs at S.Agnese and the churches of Sta.Costanza and S.Clemente. Try your hand at mosaic making.

Parents

am Borromini's masterpiece S.Ivo, then taxis up to the Galleria Borghese. Sculpture by Bernini and canvases by Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael and Domenichino.

pm Survival of faith in banned times; legalised church, Constantine, barbarian invasions and martydom. S.Agnese fuori le Mure, Sta. Costanza, S.Quattro Coronati and S.Clemente.

Day 4 (Thursday)

Children

Stories and Sculpture: Bernini at the Galleria Borghese and paintings by Raphael, Perugino and Titian. Picnic in the park followed by a chance to sculpt your own classical masterpiece.

Parents

Temporal Power of the Church; early reformation, counter reformation and public relations. The Ponte S.Angelo, St Peters, the cupola, the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel; Michelangelo, Raphael and Bernini.

Day 5 (Friday)

Children

am The art of Fountains: Explore the many fountains of the city including the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.

Parents

am Devil or Genius: Caravaggio at S.Luigi Francesi, S.Agostino and S.Maria del Popolo.

pm Flights home.
