"AHA courses are much better than A level History of Art as a preparation for university work. Exposure to real paintings, sculpture and buildings develops visual alertness. Seeing art in the cities where it was made reveals how it was shaped by its cultural context. Students from AHA have been made aware of many of the problems and excitements of academic Art History before they begin their BA."

For whom and when

AHA

This is the ideal course for school leavers, sixth formers and university students on their summer holidays who want to have a wonderful two weeks and do something interesting.

It is extremely valuable for those who have left school and are off to study art history at university. It is also a fantastic opportunity for those who have not taken a gap year or forsook the arts and humanities for the sciences and languages.

Students come to us from a variety of academic backgrounds. No previous knowledge or Art or Art History is required.

They join us because they appreciate that an enjoyment of art, architecture, sculpture and Italy is as important as an understanding of music or literature. Those who have studied the A’ Level will see much more than they have studied in class, however if you are about to take you’re AS or A2 exam this is an ideal time to supplement your course. The majority of the course is made up of British students in the summer before going to University. We also see an increasing number of students from, amongst others, America, Australia, South Africa and Holland.

There are two summer courses each year in July and August. See dates and fees. The course is limited to 30 students. Tutorials are all on site, far away from turgid lecture halls. You will be taught in groups of no more than ten students by an enthusiastic young expert.
