"AHA courses are much better than A level History of Art as a preparation for university work. Exposure to real paintings, sculpture and buildings develops visual alertness. Seeing art in the cities where it was made reveals how it was shaped by its cultural context. Students from AHA have been made aware of many of the problems and excitements of academic Art History before they begin their BA."

Private Sabbaticals

Sabbaticals

CASE STUDY: Martin Wright contacted us about arranging part of his sabbatical in 2008. We put together a month long bespoke tour of Italy for him, beginning in Venice, then travelling though Milan, Bologna, Siena, Florence & Rome. There was a different AHA tutor for each city, and the itinerary acted as a syllabus of sorts, so that over the month, Martin could build up a broad body of knowledge, see the highlights, as well as the little know secrets of each city. He wrote the following the day after he returned from this epic adventure;

"After 22 years of work including over 10 years as a partnered a major city law firm I was entitled to take a 3 month sabbatical. I talked a few ideas through with many friends and I concluded I wanted to devote one of my 3 months to a study of the history of art. AHA was then recommended to me.

November 2008 was entirely devoted by me to AHA's direction in Italy. It was a tremendously enriching experience which will be with me forever. I never even did Art ‘O' level so AHA had to deal with a novice! Their professionalism shone through strongly, their friendly knowledgeable approach contributed to a trip that I would have no hesitation in recommending (or indeed repeating myself) to those in my position as well as to much younger people with any interest in or appreciation of art, history and a history of art. Particular thanks to Rose, Nick, Richard, James, Annabel & Benjie. I am planning to visit some of the UK's galleries now to compare their treasures."
