"They say there is no such thing as a perfect moment but when we stepped into the Sistine Chapel, deserted, standing empty just for us, it wasn't just a perfect moment but a mind-blowing, perfect hour. What more can I say other than, thank you with all my heart for a truly life-changing trip."

LF Gap Year Course 2007

Stunning Sicily

Stunning Sicily - A photograph by Victoria Mele

This week is an optional extension week to the Late Summer Gap Year course, that in 2009, we are opening up to all 18-30 year olds.

Sicily is so desirable that almost every sensible nation has owned it at one time or another; Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Germans, French, and Spanish. Consequently it is a cradle of civilization and an island of intriguing contrasts. Oddly, many find it inaccessible these days but, after much experience, we might allow ourselves to boast that we 'do' Sicily really well. This will be a week of remarkable variety at a time of year when the weather is usually perfect and the heady mix of sunshine, fresh markets stalls, crumbling Baroque churches and mafiosi restaurants makes for a unique experience. We have a fantastic programme (outlined here); there will be time off for shopping & relaxation, and at the end of the week, there is a pool to dive into at our countryside agriturismo.

We have chosen the accommodation based on location and for being 'suggestivo', literally suggestive but actually meaning evocative. The first three nights are in a 17th Century Palazzo Pensione in Palermo, then two nights in a selection of closely located apartments in the sublime Ortiga region of Syracuse & the final two nights in the beautiful Borgo Petra, an agriturismo between Mt. Etna and the bustling city of Catania.

Fees are £990, and include seven nights accommodation as described above with breakfast, stunning tuition from Sunday until Saturday, all museum, gallery and site entrance fees and private minibus travel throughout Italy. Lunch, supper and travel insurance are not included.

Flights are also not included. We wish to allow you the chance to take full opportunity of the less expensive online fares, as well as allowing the flexibility of airport departure and arrival.

We will provide meticulous details on request. Current costs vary from £130 - £180 for return flights.
