The Section of Surgery’s recent visit to Padua and Venice was made truly magical by the involvement of a charismatic foursome called Art History Abroad. They brought the Renaissance alive and the world of Italian art and architecture into our understanding in a way few of us will ever forget.
Royal Society of Medicine Tour 2006
Tours for Generation X

The idea is unique: Art history tours designed specifically for those in their 30's and 40's. Our short courses are a combination of learning, travel, good food and wine and most importantly, fun. Reawaken that desire for knowledge after a hard slog up the career ladder or perhaps recovery is needed from the inevitable 'baby brain'.
Our tutors are the key to our success. They are of a similar age to the group with a passion and a knowledge of all things Italian. Their enthusiasm is infections and their teaching approach unstuffy - no long spiel just lively discussions. One painting alone can induce debates on history, music and theology to advertising, banking and politics. No prior knowledge of art or history is necessary. The small tutor groups of twelve or less allow everyone to see, hear and participate.
We know from personal experience that at this stage in life a bit of luxury wouldn't go amiss, we have therefore selected our hotels and transport with this in mind. All our hotels are chosen for their excellent standard of accommodation and central location whilst still retaining their Italian charm.
Experience is paramount; we not only know how to avoid the crowds, find hidden gems and arrange private visits but we also know where the best restaurants and bars are to suit the mood of the group. We also know when to break for a beer or a cappuccino!
