Hilma Af Klint and Piet Mondrian

The Jerwood Space and Tate Modern

Coffee · Lecture · Lunch · Exhibition

16th June 2023

This exhibition brings together two visionary artists: Swedish painter Hilma af Klint, and Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, and in doing so hopes for one to cast new light on the other. Both painters invented their own language of abstract art, each rooted in nature and an interest in spirituality, science and philosophy. Though Mondrian is best known for his iconic grids, we will also see rarely exhibited paintings of flowers that he continued to work on throughout his career. Af Klimt’s highly abstract works also found their beginnings in natural forms. This is a unique opportunity to see two artists wrestling with the language of abstraction to understand the forces behind life on earth.

The lecture by Tom Parsons will prepare you for the exhibition so that you can make the most of your time in the gallery and gain the greatest insight into the works. Please join us for lunch afterwards in the ‘Kitchen and Bar’ at Tate Modern with spectacular views.
