Live and Online Lecture

Reading the Changing British Landscape Through Art

By Alys Fowler

Wednesday 1st July at 6pm

We are running a series of live and online lectures and we do hope you will bring an aperitivo and join us for an hour before dinner. We have chosen subjects to stimulate new interests and conversation, ready for the imminent return to socializing. We invite you to join 15 minutes early to hear information on AHA’s plans for the future and there will be time for questions and answers at the end.

Reading the Changing British Landscape Through Art

Alys Fowler, renowned horticulturist, presenter and author, will talk to us about how art is an incredibly important historical record of the British landscape.  Alys will highlight how the land and what we grow on it has changed dramatically over the decades.  An interesting aspect of the lecture will be how artists view the landscape and how they interpret what they see and what they chose to show us.  Paintings discussed will cover a range of styles to include Nathaniel Cook, John Everett Millais and Stanley Spencer.
