Live and Online Lectures

After our successful Spring Series we have now launched an Autumn Series of Live and Online Lectures.  We have an eclectic range of subjects which we hope will inspire and entertain you as the evenings draw in.  We invite you to sign in 15 minutes early to hear our news and future plans.  So, please join us with an aperitivo for an hour before dinner.

Love and Marriage in the Renaissance

Nick will look at the themes of love and marriage in the Renaissance from the viewpoint of anthropology. He will discuss how the Church, the law and public opinion influenced relationships in 15th and 16th century Florence and how this both affected and was reflected in art of the period. The lecture will encompass far ranging ideas such as Sumptuary Laws and Mythology as well as the ever cheerful Savonarola. We will see a variety of art including Van Eyck, Raphael, Bronzino, Botticelli and possibly Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights.
