Estorick Collection
with Joshua White
Guided Gallery Tour
20th May 2026
The Estorick Collection of Italian Modern Art is the only British museum or gallery dedicated exclusively to Italian art. In a Grade II listed Georgian building in the heart of Islington, the museum has displayed some of the best Italian Futurist works since its opening in 1998. The collection was started by Eric Estorick – an American sociologist, writer and collector – and his wife Salome. The couple amassed a truly impressive collection between 1953 and 1958, befriending and championing artists such as Massimo Campigli and Zoran Music. Despite attempts by both the Tate and the Italian government to buy their art, the Estoricks set up the Eric and Salome Estorick Foundation in 1993, to which they donated the collection.
Joshua White will walk us through the Estorick Collection, discussing the impact of F.T.Marinetti’s Futurism on Italian art and charting its progression throughout the collection. Some notable masterpieces include Boccioni’s Modern Idol, Carrà’s Leaving the Theatre, Russolo’s Music, Severini’s The Boulevard and Balla’s The Hand of the Violinist. We will also see many works of painting, drawing and sculpture that are not associated with Futurism, but are credited with contributing to the rebirth of Italian modern art in the 20th century all the same.
