Myths, Gods and Heroes

Walk with Celia Higson

The National Gallery

Guided Gallery Tour – Lunch

Wednesday 9th September 2026

*Fully Booked*

From Titian to Turner, what is it about these ancient myths that has captivated artists and audiences for centuries? Join Celia Higson as she explores the enduring appeal of classical mythology through some of her favourite Renaissance, Rococo and Modernist paintings in the National Gallery’s collection.

With the recent release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey reigniting interest in the ancient world, there has never been a better time to discover the stories that have inspired generations of artists, writers and philosophers. Through the Gallery’s magnificent paintings, you’ll uncover the myths behind the masterpieces while gaining insight into the artistic techniques, historical context and cultural significance that bring these timeless tales to life.

Celia is an experienced AHA tutor with a background in the contemporary art world, and has led specialist art trips across Italy, France, Spain and India. She has carefully curated a selection of works from the National Gallery that will take us on a fascinating journey through classical mythology, revealing not only the stories themselves but also the artists who reimagined them and the rich artistic traditions they helped shape.
