Van Eyck: The Portraits
Lecture by Dr Richard Stemp
St. Anne’s Church and The National Gallery
Coffee · Lecture · Lunch · Exhibition
17th February 2027
This is an unmissable exhibition. From November, all of Jan van Eyck’s portraits will be displayed together for the first time ever. Discover the extraordinary world of the artist whose revolutionary vision transformed portraiture and changed the course of Western art by joining this lecture by Dr Richard Stemp. He will explore the remarkable works that reveal an artist with an unparalleled eye for detail and a gift for bringing his subjects vividly to life.
Van Eyck captured the individuality of his sitters with astonishing realism. Painted nearly 600 years ago, these portraits still seem to look back at us across the centuries. Richard will shed light on the sitters, including the merchants, craftsmen and members of van Eyck’s own circle.
Join Dr Richard Stemp to discover the people, the techniques and the artistic genius behind Van Eyck: The Portraits — and explore why these extraordinary paintings continue to captivate us today.
