This year’s trip to Japan will be as far off the tourist trail as possible. Join us to discover the spiritual heart of Kyushu, visiting ancient Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples and breathtaking natural landscapes. We will journey to the mystical Yakushima Island, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of ancient forests, mountains and shines. We will learn more about historic Nagasaki and Dejima, uncovering Kyushu’s fascinating international heritage and its enduring samurai history. We will meet local artisans and discover traditional crafts, from ceramics and textiles to time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. Throughout our travels we will try Kyushu’s regional cuisine which will include exceptional seasonal specialities. We have booked beautiful traditional ryokans where we can end each day with a wonderful soak in a natural onsen.
