Anish Kapoor
Lecture by Joshua White
Hayward Gallery and St John’s Waterloo
Coffee · Lecture · Lunch · Exhibition
4th September 2026
Explore Anish Kapoor’s fascination with perception and what he describes as “the space of the object.” This exhibition invites visitors to reconsider ideas of presence and absence, moving beyond surfaces to contemplate what lies beneath. Featuring his disorientating ‘void’ works and recent Vantablack sculptures, Kapoor creates visceral forms that evoke the body and encourage meditative reflection. At the centre of the show are three monumental sculptures, whose scale and intensity embody Kapoor’s pursuit of the sublime, challenging our sense of self and spatial perception.
Joshua White has taught at Christie’s Education for twenty years and has been the Director of a commercial art gallery. He is an art historian, writer and lecturer specialising in modern and contemporary art. Joshua has also recently joined the Arts Society as an accredited lecturer.
