Painting in the French Riviera
Lecture by Tom Parsons
Linnean Society and Royal Academy of Arts
Coffee · Lecture · Lunch · Exhibition
18th November 2026
Impressionists, Post Impressionists and Modernists gathered in the French Riviera during the 19th and 20th centuries, escaping the industrialised grey cities of the north and reigniting imagination and creativity against a backdrop of cerulean skies and sapphire seas. Over 120 works on canvas, sculpture, posters and film are brought together at the Royal Academy and will transport you back to the South of France from the 1870s through to the 1960s. Join us as we pay a visit to Matisse and Klein in Nice, Cezanne in L’Estaque, Signac in Sant-Tropez, Picasso and Monet in Antibes, Bonnard in Le Cannet, and Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
The lecture by Tom Parsons will prepare you for the exhibition so that you can make the most of your time in the gallery and gain the greatest insight into the works. Please join us for lunch afterwards at Il Vicolo.
