Four Different Walks

19th June, 25th June, 26th June, 3rd July, 14th July 2025

*Limited to 10 spaces per walk*

*All Sold Out*

To celebrate the reopening of the National Gallery’s Sainsbury Wing and the Gallery’s 200th anniversary, Artemisia is hosting a series of four London Walks led by Dr Richard Stemp. Each walk will explore a different time period, reflecting the new layout of the National Gallery.
  1. 19th June and 25th June Medieval and Early Renaissance in the Sainsbury Wing
  2. 26th June – Renaissance in the West Wing
  3. 3rd July – Baroque in the North Wing
  4. 14th July – Modernism in the East Wing

Although each wing follows a loose chronological arrangement, the works within them are also often hung thematically. This has created unexpected juxtapositions and interesting dialogues across the centuries that are at once both surprising and sometimes visually jarring. We will determine why the curators have made the choices they have and also discuss to what extent we feel they are successful. As well as seeing our most treasured paintings, we hope to also discover some new favourite rooms and modes of display.

For each walk, please meet at 10:20am for a 10:30am start inside the foyer of the Sainsbury Wing. We will finish around 1pm with a break for coffee. Please do join us afterwards for lunch at the new Italian restaurant in the National Gallery, Locatelli. We will make sure that each lunch menu is different in case you would like to join us for all four walks.
